The Great Mississippi River Race for Rett
Syndrome, May 2001
We
have finished fundraising for the Great Mississippi River
Race for Rett Syndrome May 2001 - and almost $40,000 for
Rett syndrome research was raised and earmarked specifically
in response to the Great Mississippi River Race for Rett
Syndrome! Additional funds have been received by charities
and research groups as a result of the race, and we are
grateful for everyone's generosity. Special thanks to all
Bristol-Myers Squibb, all
Teams and all Sponsors/Donors
for all their generous support.
Rett
syndrome research funding has been historically funded from
the National Institutes of Health, private research work
and grants, donations from Rett syndrome families and friends,
and many charities that fund research related to the cause
of and cure for Rett syndrome.
In
the fall 1999, an
unusual X-linked
genetic mutation (MECP2) was discovered and accounts
for most cases of Rett syndrome. Time is of the essence
to support research now so that those living with Rett syndrome
today may lead a substantially better life today!
The
Rett Syndrome Research Foundation
(RSRF) is the only Rett syndrome 501(c)3 charity that
strictly funds biomedical Rett Syndrome research.
If
you would like to continue to donate to Rett syndrome research
at this very crucial time, please
consider supporting those with Rett syndrome by donating
directly to the
Rett Syndrome Research Foundation
(RSRF) or
your favorite Rett syndrome group, charity or research lab.
Remember to mark your donation "for Rett syndrome research
only" if you want to make sure your donations are used
for research.
