During the Great Mississippi River Race for Rett Syndrome, May 5-31, 2001, the following World Records were believed to have been set (records are being reviewed):

1. Longest non-stop canoe and kayak race in history (2001 race teams: Team Amazons of the Mississippi, Team Rebels with a Cause, Team Alaska MSC, Team Kruger and Team Double Helix).

2. Best time known for paddling the entire Mississippi River in a 2 person kayak, with same 2 paddlers and kayak throughout (by Team Double Helix, paddlers Clark Eid and Kurt Zimmermann).

3. Record for number of times a person paddled the entire Mississippi River non stop (three times by Verlen Kruger of Team Kruger).

4. Best time for oldest combined age (over 136) in a 2 person canoe, same 2 paddlers, entire Mississippi River (Team Kruger, Verlen Kruger and Bob Bradford)

5. Oldest person to paddle the entire Mississippi River (Verlen Kruger of Team Kruger, age 78).

We will apply for Guinness World Record status for records. Good job everyone! Thanks for bringing Rett syndrome into a national spotlight as part of the longest, toughest non-stop canoe and kayak race ever held!
